Processes are the DNA of any organization. In order to ensure that the correct processes are being automated and followed across the enterprise, governance is critical.

All organizations follow a strict governance mechanism for information regarding accounting information, inventory, production, etc., as this has been deemed important for running an organization. Similarly, organizations need to be concerned regarding the governance of their process documentation. Processes are the DNA of any organization. In order to ensure that the correct processes are being automated and followed across the enterprise, governance is critical.

Process governance not only means storing the processes in a repository and sharing them across the organization, but also managing the right process being distributed across the enterprise. The Process Governance cycle includes managing inter-relationships between different models and attached files in the process diagram, version control, audit, sign-off, review, notifications, and all that is required to make the governance cycle automated and not a nightmare of manual control.

ARIS Process Governance lets you establish enterprise-wide policies for automated governance processes using a model-driven approach.

  • Definition: Governance processes are designed as an event-driven process chain including tasks, IT services, roles, screens, data flows, and notifications. This allows for business analysts to prepare their governance processes in the familiar EPC notation
  • Deployment: The process governance EPC diagrams are transformed into BPMN models to deploy them on the BPMN workflow engine. Such a model-driven implementation allows for making changes to a governance process within a short period of time without any programming skills
  • Execution: Executing the governance process allows for generating BPM tasks to be performed by specific stakeholders, notifying stakeholders on process model changes or new BPM tasks, automating ARIS functionality and integrating third-party applications
  • Monitoring: The process board gives all BPM stakeholders an overview of their pending tasks. In a separate view, project managers can follow the current status of all BPM processes and monitor them

  • Improve BPM processes that involve collaboration — such as change management, document control flow, change requests, and requests for new models or objects in ARIS projects
  • Facilitate continuous process improvements
  • Manage the governance process by creating a model like any other process
  • Design and implement complex governance processes that are unique to the organization
  • Change the governance processes without modifications to workflow application
  • Automate ARIS administration tasks to ensure quality, consistency, and control
  • Maintain full audit trail on Process Governance
  • Maintain version control on models
  • Display on a Web-based ARIS Process Board a list of all open, ongoing, delegated, and completed tasks based on the roles and responsibility for the user ensuring replacement cover, escalation mechanism, and smooth operation of the workflow

Using its past experience, VEA has developed a standard methodology for Process Governance. We have customized ARIS Process Governance to implement this methodology, enabling a faster implementation within the enterprise. In addition, VEA fine-tunes the methodology to an organization’s specifics:

  • Implement ARIS Process Governance.
  • Consult and build EPC model for Process Governance.
  • Set-up roles and responsibilities in ARIS Process Governance and Process board.
  • Customize notification emails.
  • Automate complex ARIS administration functions like versioning, semantic check, merging, and process publishing.
